SOME CIRCUITS

Bike Light

This circuit was developed to fit into a Wilkinsons brand toothbrush holder.

The circuit just fits and as the toothbrush holder is transparent, it lets pupils make a complex cased circuit without needing to do any cutting of the case. Getting the circuit to fit in the case without reducing the track widths too much was very time consuming.

I suggest an on/off switch is fitted. Ideally fit a miniature reed (magnetic) switch to the board and use a magnet placed on the outside of the case to switch the circuit on. It would attach where the red loop of wire is shown in the photographs. Attach to the saddle supports with nylock ties sleeved in 6mm fish tank tubing.

Note that the batteries do not last very long, There is enough room to squeeze in a couple of AAA batteries but you would need to use low power 555 chips to make it work.

Batteries used here are 'N' type 12 volt car alarm keyfob batteries and are actually made up of 9 tiny button cells in an outer case which limits the amount of actual power in them. They are quite cheap and can be found at Rapid Electronics. N size plastic holder from Rapid Electronics. The holder has two thick pins coming out of the base so you will need to drill a 2mm hole for soldering into the PCB.
