SMATS was developed by me, and I set up and ran over 55 separate 4 week classes in over 25 different subjects, recruiting and training teachers, the community and local organisations to deliver the classes. Participants included the Colleges KS3 and kS4 students, Parents, Other family members, Community organisations and KS2 pupils from 5 different primary schools.

A typical class ran for 4 Saturday Mornings for 10-15 people. It had a focus each Saturday so participants would be making things each week to take home or build on.

SMATS stopped during 2004 as funding sources dried up but I have gone on to provide consultancy to organisations wishing to run their own courses or apply the knowledge and techniques I have available. SMATS equipment is still loaned out on a regular basis by KHCTC.

Example...
Flying Machines
. Each week participants learned about and buil a working model of different types of flight. Week One - Gliders. Week Two - Helicopters, Week 3 - Powered planes and Week 4 - Airships.
They took home all their working models. The classes were assisted by members from a local branch of the BMFA (British Model Flying Association).
A 16 page scheme of work was written and placed on the internet for others to use, which included photo's, week by wek plans and contact details for equipment and associated organisations.

I also set up and ran these clubs.
