Rather than set-up a new website to deal with the breadth of consultancy experience I have, I decided to add this on to my website.

Worked 6 years as designer for clients such as Boots, M&S, Rail track and Dunhill

Retrained as a Technology Teacher

Taught for 14 years at Secondary level in Graphics, Electronics, Textiles, Resistant Materials, Computer Control, Design, Structures

Developed and ran 50+ Saturday master classes

Wrote and keep updated three separate websites (The main www.ajbooker.co.uk website receives about 1.5 million page viewings a year)

Developed 100 plus pages of worksheets for New Wave Concepts to promote their electronics design software

Since September 2005 I have been working as a consultant to various organisations, producing resources and delivering training in Electronics, CAD/CAM, Engineering, Pupil / Parent inititiatives, Special events and lots of slightly strange but educationally effective ideas

Present work

I work 3 days a week on a long term contract for Top valley School and Engineering College where I am Consultant Business and Development Manager for their new Engineering Centre

Since starting this position in January 07 I have, amongst other things:

Developed various engineering based projects for the school

Developed and piloted a new Ultra Low cost KS2 wind turbines course for a primary school

Worked in partnership with Top valley Schools community manager to secure extensive funding for a new energy generation project which includes pupil visits for 180 pupils and 2 teacher training days for staff across Nottingham city

Developed 2 Parent / child activities in Bazookoids (CAD/CAM vacuum bazooka construction) and Bike Blocks (CAD/CAM concrete moulding course)

Developed engineering based ideas presented to educational organisations and companies to promote engineering in innovative ways

Supported the school team in a national electronics competiiton where they placed in the top 20 out of 500 entries in their first year

Other days I work for a variety of clients:

Since January 07 I have worked for and have been booked in by:

University of the First Age - Developing 4 x week long teaching units on Robotics, Kinetic Water Sculpture, Mechatronics and Green Transportation.

Nottingham GIfted and Talented for whom I have run a number of 1 day events in 'Clockwork Monsters' and Ball launchers

Top Valley Education Improvement Partnership for whom I have developed and run a new KS2 colour changing nightlight course and other projects

East Midlands Gifted and Talented for whom I have developed and am about to run 2 separate 1 day courses in 3D graphics

Various Nottingham schools for whom i have advised on community courses, delivered whole day and twilight inset and developed resources for assesing pupil ability

Ideas I am presently developing:

A super low cost suspension bridge kit to support a team working course I am developing for a family of schools

A 'female robot' programming course for Year 9 girls to explore the issues surrounding identityA 'power bar' to act as a cheap generator and reservoir of electrical power for simple machines in primary schools

A 'dads and lads' 12kg classs 'Robot wars' course

A bridge building course for Pupil / Parents which incorporates many different low cost sensors

An online BLOG for pupils on field trips to report back three times a day to their classmates and act as a record of their 'journey'
